OSDP Cable Test

You have access to OSDP Cable Test, and you will be able to use it here as soon as it is ready. This page already lists what it will do and what you will need.

What it Will Do

  • Sends packets down a run of cable to another device that echoes back whatever it receives. Each packet carries a CRC, so damaged data is caught and counted.
  • Lets you choose the packet size, how long to wait for the echo, and how fast to send.
  • Can send packets of random length instead of one fixed size, to behave more like a busy protocol.

It tests the cable and the two ends, not OSDP: the device at the far end only needs to send back what it receives.

What you Will Need

  • A device at the far end of the cable that echoes back every byte it receives (a second adapter set to echo works).
  • The cable run you want to test, wired to the adapter at one end.
  • Desktop Chrome or Edge with a USB-to-RS-485 adapter. Your browser asks you to choose the adapter, and the page can only use the one you pick.
  • Only one tab can use the adapter at a time, so close any other OSDP Tools tab that has it open.
