OSDP Trace

Why you would want this

Stop guessing. Read the wire.

When a reader and a controller will not agree, the answer is in the conversation between them. OSDP Trace shows you that conversation in plain language.

See the whole conversation

Every packet is decoded: the address, which way it was going, the command or reply, the sequence number, the check type, and what was inside it.

Find the problem fast

Bad checksums and broken packets are flagged. Filter down to just the errors, or hide the constant polling so the interesting traffic stands out.

Keep it and share it

Open a saved trace, or save one to send to a colleague or a customer. Older capture files open too.

What it Does

  • Decodes OSDP v2.2 packets: address, direction, command or reply, sequence number, check type and payload fields.
  • Flags bad checksums and malformed packets.
  • Filters by address, direction and command; hides POLL and ACK noise.
  • Opens and saves trace files, including older capture files.
  • Captures live from a USB serial RS-485 adapter at 9600 to 230400 baud, and decodes packets as they arrive. Coming soon: Bluetooth RS-485 bridges.
  • Reads Secure Channel traffic: with the capture of the session's start (and the reader's key, if it does not use the default), it checks every MAC and decrypts the data. The key stays in your browser.

What you Need

  • A saved trace file to open, or a live bus to watch.
  • For live capture: desktop Chrome or Edge, and a USB-to-RS-485 adapter wired to the bus you want to observe. Your browser asks you to choose the adapter, and the page can only use the one you pick.
  • Only one tab can use the adapter at a time, so close any other OSDP Tools tab that has it open.
